Los Angeles County Metro
Almost 90% of public transit riders commute to work, retail or entertainment venues. This means when there are shifts in employer locations, retail and entertainment venues, transit will be impacted. In order to keep up with these shifts, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority (Metro), needs to know passenger origins and destinations, frequency and time of transit use. As part of a multiagency team, Maroon Society conducted 33,780 in-person surveys of LA Metro bus and rail (train) riders. Our surveyors intercepted passengers on-board moving buses and trains to complete surveys in Spanish and English. The data gathered helped Metro optimize their routes to reduce traffic and increase services to riders.
